UPDATED: Indiana State Police investigating fatal police chase crash

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A police chase in Huntington County turned deadly Sunday.

It started when a pickup truck pulled over by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department on US24 near Parkview Huntington Hospital sped away from police. A passenger in the truck got out at the intersection of Ridgeline and Hauenstein Roads.

The driver kept going another half mile, before the truck went off the side of the road, hit a large tree head-on and burst into flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Indiana State Police says they’re investigating the incident.

2:00 PM update: Indiana State Police have identified the victim as 46 year old Larry Von Huey of rural Huntington. An autopsy was done in Fort Wayne Monday morning. The incident is still under investigation.
