FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A group at IPFW wants Chancellor Vicky Carwein to be removed and the college’s reconstruction to be reconsidered.

On Wednesday afternoon, IPFW students, community members and IPFW staff meet to formally resist the college’s plan to eliminate and restructure some programs.

In October, IPFW announced it was getting rid of several liberal arts programs in part of a reconstruction plan. A group called Not in Our Future held the press conference Wednesday.

“We will continue to organize and apply pressure until the IPFW administration agrees to the following requests,” Not in Our Future Member Otto King-Hoffman said.

  1. “Scrap the Nov. 15 deadline for responses and counter-proposals.
  2. Re-open admissions  to the eliminated programs.
  3. All students currently enrolled with a major or minor in the cut programs retain their major or minor.
  4.  Hold or freeze any cuts or eliminations until the information that has been used to eliminate these programs are made public and any counter proposals are considered.
  5. Commit to fighting the efforts to split IPFW’s affiliations.
  6. We call on the IU board of trustees and Purdue Board of Trustees to remove Chancellor Vicky L. Carwein as the head of this university and allow us to appoint a replacement.”

The group says they have planned a number of public forums and demonstrations to protest the reconstruction.
