Investigators Release Suspect’s Vehicle Description Involved in Apartment Robberies

Police are describing the vehicles as a ‘boxy-style’ Jeep Cherokee, white or light in color made in the late nineties or early 2000.

(City of Fort Wayne Police Department) _ The City of Fort Wayne Police Department is alerting residents to a series of armed robberies occurring in apartment complexes:

January 7, 2013, 10:58 pm – 5127 Stonehedge Blvd, Canterbury Apartments – Male and female victim reported being approached at the entrance of the apartment building by two male black subjects; both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victims of iPhones, purse, wallet, credit cards, and cash.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 8, 2013, 12:00 am – 2026 Ardmore Ave., Autumn Creek Apartments – Female victim reported shortly after walking into her apartment building, two male black subjects entered the building also; one brandishing a handgun.  The two forced the victim into her apartment at gunpoint.  One subject held the victim at gunpoint while the second subject searched around the home.  Reported loss included a wall containing credit cards and cash, and a notebook computer.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 8, 2013, 9:18 pm – 5415 N. Clinton St., Gardenview Apartments – Male victim reported being approached at his vehicle in the parking lot of the apartment building by two male black subjects; both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victim of his iPhone, wallet, and keys. No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 8, 2013, 9:34 pm – 5415 N. Clinton St., Gardenview Apartments – Female victim reported being approached at her vehicle in the apartment complex parking lot by a single male black subject who was armed with a handgun and robbed the victim of her purse containing her wallet, credit cards, cash, and other miscellaneous personal items.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 8, 2013, 8:24 pm – 6416 Covington Rd., Colony Bay Apartments – Female victim reported being approached by two male black subjects as she was checking for mail at the mailbox.  Both subjects were armed with handguns and robbed the victim of her purse and cell phone.  No injuries were reported at the scene.January 8, 2013, 9:05 pm – 2122 Ardmore Ave., Autumn Creek Apartments – Male victim reported being forced into his apartment at gunpoint by two male black subjects.  Reported loss included various household items.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Two additional similar incidents were reported late yesterday:

January 10, 2013, 10:12 pm – 8709 Gulf Dr. – Female victim reported being followed into apartment building and forced into home at gunpoint by two male black subjects.  The perpetrators then bound the hands of the residents and took several items before fleeing.  Reported loss included a television, wallets, and cell phones.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

January 10, 2013, 11:33 pm – 7529 Cold Springs Blvd. – Two male black subjects armed with handguns forced their way into the apartment home and then bound the hands of the three occupants.  The perpetrators collected several items before fleeing.  One of the victims freed himself from the ties and fired upon the fleeing suspects.  Injuries were reported at the scene; one victim kicked in the head and another victim struck about the face.

Police encourage all residents to park in well lit areas, be aware of their surroundings, and to report suspicious persons, vehicles, and/or activity.  Investigators believe these incidents to be related and ask anyone with information to contact Fort Wayne Police at (260) 427-1201 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 237-STOP [7867].
