IndyCar 2015 Schedule

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The schedule for the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series has been released.

The 2015 schedule has many changes from the 2014 schedule. Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Company, says they're making progress on the growth strategies they've been working on for over a year. “We think that this schedule will help us continue to grow our fan base both through our broadcasts and digitally as well as at the tracks themselves.”

The schedule has 17 races beginning March 8 in Brasilia, Brazil. The series returns to North America on March 29 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

Other changes include the addition of a race in New Orleans on April 12 and the series finale moving to Sonoma Raceway in California on August 30. Miles says while Brasilia is the only race outside of North America in 2015, they're hoping to add more international races earlier in the year in 2016. “There are ongoing, very active conversations that are serious with three other countries at this point so we remain bullish and, frankly, more confident than ever in our ability to expand that part of the series in February.”

Only one doubleheader is scheduled for 2015 at Belle Isle Park in Detroit on May 30 and 31. Indianapolis will see two races once again with the Grand Prix of Indianapolis on May 9 and the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24.

2014 Verizon IndyCar Series Champion Will Power says he's excited for next season. “I kind of like the amount of back-to-back races. It keeps you motivated, keeps you on your game.” Power says he likes the diversity of the schedule with six road course races, five street circuit races and six oval races. He says that kind of diversity is what makes the Verizon IndyCar Series special.
