Indy Suspends Police Body Cam Test Program

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): A seven-month pilot program that equipped officers with body cameras is coming to an end because Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department leaders are uncertain whether they can afford to continue it.

Department spokesman Sgt. Kendale Adams says local law enforcement officials want the cameras, but it would cost about $2 million to give one to every officer.

He says the police department and the Department of Public Safety will ask for funding to purchase the cameras next year.
