Indy Narrows Bids for Justice Center

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The City of Indianapolis has narrowed the field of teams bidding for the $500 million Marion County Justice Center project.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Adam Collins says they are: Indy Justice Partners, Plenary Edgemoor Justice Partners and WMB Heartland Justice Partners. The city is planning to relocate criminal courts, probation and community corrections and holding facilities including adult jails, processing and health and mental facilities onto one campus.

The facility would be located at the former GM Stamping Plant just west of downtown. Collins says the city is making sure that operating costs don‘t exceed $50 million a year over a 35-year term. Collins says the complex itself would cost roughly $500 million. However, it‘s believed total costs including construction, annual operating costs, maintenance and financing, among other issues, could push costs to about $1.75 billion over 35 years.

Collins says they‘ll choose a bidder by December 23rd. After that, City County Council will have their say on the project.
