INDOT Preparing for Tricky Driving Conditions

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The state Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be aware that strong winds, near-freezing temperatures, rain, sleet and snow could cause treacherous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning until 10 p.m. Central time Friday for LaPorte County, saying northwest winds of 30 to 45 mph were expected with gusts as high as 60 mph. The weather service says the winds will make driving difficult at times, especially for higher profile vehicles. The winds also could knock down small- to medium-sized tree branches and could cause power outages.

The weather service also issued a lake effect snow advisory for Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in northwest Indiana, saying heavy bursts could affect visibility. Some areas could receive 1 to 3 inches of snow.
