Indianapolis Turns Elsewhere after Super Bowl Loss

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Tourism officials in Indianapolis are turning from their unsuccessful bid for the 2018 Super Bowl to a push for future major sporting events and conventions.

Visit Indy spokesman Chris Gahl says 19,000 hotel rooms were put on hold for the Super Bowl and attention is now being paid to filling those.

Indianapolis has several other major sports events lined up, including the 2015 NCAA men's basketball Final Four, the 2016 NCAA women's Final Four and the 2016 Olympic diving trials.

Indiana Sports Corp. President Allison Melangton tells the Indianapolis Business Journal that top priorities are securing future Big Ten basketball tournaments and the football championship game and preparing bids to host 2020 Olympic trials.

Gahl says the tourism group is pursuing several conventions for early 2018.
