INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (AP) – A judge has sentenced a 16-year-old Indianapolis youth to 51 years in prison for his part in a crime spree in which one man was shot dead and another man wounded.
Gabriel Edwards also was sentenced to 10 years' probation Wednesday after pleading guilty last month to murder, attempted murder and robbery.
Prosecutors say Edwards, then 15, was driving a stolen car when 17-year-old accomplice Sirquain Burr of Indianapolis shot 38-year-old John Yingling in the driveway of the man's south side home on Feb. 13, 2013. Later that day, a man was shot walking his dog near on the city's northwest side. That shooting spurred a police chase that ended with a car crash in nearby Brownsburg.
A judge sentenced Burr last week to 68 years, with nine years suspended.
