INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ About 150 protesters have gathered on Monument Circle in Indianapolis for a demonstration in memory of Michael Brown, the Ferguson, Missouri, youth fatally shot by a police officer.
The demonstration Tuesday evening began with 4{ minutes of silence. Organizers say the 4{ minutes symbolized the 4{ hours that the 18-year-old Brown's body lay in the street after he was shot.
Members from a group calling itself Indy10 organized the demonstration to protest a grand jury's decision not to indict the white police officer who shot Brown, who was black and unarmed. Protesters held signs reading “Justice is needed'' and “J Walking shouldn't be a death sentence.''
Protesters handed out candles in remembrance of Brown. Police cars lined the circle and some officers were on horseback, but the demonstration remained peaceful.
