INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indianapolis police say they are making it easier for people to file complaints against officers while streamlining the investigation process so that cases are resolved faster and supervisors can quickly identify those who are targets of frequent complaints.
 
Police officials told The Indianapolis Star the goal is to reassure the public that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department takes allegations of officer misconduct seriously. 
 
The new system allows people to file complaints online. It also requires supervisors to file grievances electronically so the records can't be easily misplaced. Public Safety Director Troy Riggs says the new system will make it easier for officers and the public to track complaints.
 
Fraternal Order of Police President Bill Owensby says he believes the new system should be good for all.
