Indianapolis Officer Hurt When Squad Car Hit

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): An Indianapolis police officer was injured when his squad car was slammed into from behind at the end of an interstate exit ramp.

Emergency crews were called about 3 a.m. Thursday to the interchange of Interstate 465 and Indiana 67 on the city's southwest side. The collision smashed in the rear of the squad car and left debris scattered across the roadway.

WTHR-TV reports the officer was sitting up and talking when he taken from the scene to a hospital.

City police spokesman Officer Chris Wilburn says the officer's injuries aren't life threatening. Wilburn tells The Indianapolis Star that investigators believe the driver who caused the wreck was drunk.
