Indianapolis Man Gets 37 Years in Henry County Killing

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) – A 35-year-old Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for using a shotgun to kill another Indianapolis man in Henry County.

Edward Thompson pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 22-year-old Zackery Soots. On Thursday, a judge ordered a 45-year prison sentence with eight years suspended for Thompson, followed by eight years of probation.

Thompson shot Soots three times with a shotgun last February and then threw his body off a bridge. Soot's body was found April 13 in in Montgomery Creek in western Henry County.

The (Muncie) Star Press (http://tspne.ws/1H2PWdR ) reports Thompson told the victim's family Thursday that he prays they eventually will forgive him.
