Indianapolis Collects More Revenue from Metered Parking

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Indianapolis Department of Public Works says the city collected $3.3 million in revenue last year from parking meters, up about 9 percent from a year earlier.

Revenue was up from $3.1 million in 2013. The parking meters are operated by private firm ParkIndy and brought in a total of $9.9 million last year, nearly double from 2011.

ParkIndy took over management of Indianapolis parking meters in 2011. The city saw revenue of roughly $339,000 the last year it operated parking meters in 2010.

The Department of Public Works said in a news release that the city's revenue from parking meters can only be used for improvements in or near parking meter areas, per state law and local ordinances.
