INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Flames shot several feet above the roof of a large building as firefighters worked to keep it from spreading to nearby homes in a neighborhood near downtown Indianapolis.
Fire officials say the vacant building was a former nursing home. The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, with flames and heavy smoke coming from the building before crews were able to get it under control within an hour. No injuries were reported but the building was gutted.
Officials say firefighters were called to the same building Wednesday night to a fire that caused limited damage. Neighbors told firefighters that vandalism has been a problem at building in the neighborhood just west of the city's downtown.
