The Times reports the Gary School Board voted 4-3 Monday to accept the designation by the Indiana Department of Education. The move allows the state to oversee how the district's federal funds are spent.
Gary Superintendent Cheryl Pruitt says her staff and the state agency will work collaboratively in guiding the district.
