INDIANAPOLIS (AP): A suburban Indianapolis teenager accused of trying to travel overseas to join the Islamic State militant group is due in federal court for an initial hearing.

Akram Musleh was indicted Sept. 14 on a charge of providing material support to a terrorist organization.

The Brownsburg man is scheduled to appear Friday afternoon in Indianapolis before a judge who will advise him of the charge he faces. A not guilty plea has already been entered on his behalf.

Musleh remains in federal custody, awaiting his Nov. 14 trial. If convicted, he faces a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

Musleh was 18 when he was arrested in June by FBI agents while trying to board a bus to New York. Prosecutors say he planned to fly to Morocco and onto Islamic State-controlled territory.
