CARMEL, Ind. (AP) _ An unlicensed home day care in Carmel where an infant died last month has been shut down by the state.
The Indiana attorney general’s office said Friday a Hamilton County judge had issued an order shutting down Stacey Cox Child Care pending a court hearing next Wednesday in Noblesville.
Police say a 5-month-old child was found not breathing in a broken collapsible crib on Jan. 24, and two employees tested positive for marijuana later that day. The state was also concerned about unattended sleeping children and space heaters and bleach left within children’s reach.
The state says the home violated state law by caring for more than five unrelated children at a time, which requires a license.
Cox didn’t return a phone call from The Associated Press seeking comment Friday.
