UNDATED (WOWO): A new Apartment List survey shows that more Americans are now renting their homes than any other time in 20 years.
Indiana Apartment Association President Lynne Petersen says that‘s due to numerous factors: more college graduates are choosing to rent, fallout from the Great Recession of 2007, downsizing baby boomers and greater desire for maintenance-free living, travel and urban life.
Petersen says more people are seeing “the value in renting” which is slowly changing negative perceptions about renting homes. She says the rise in high-end construction with amenities is also helping.
Petersen says more cities across Indiana are building rental properties in their downtown cores. She says they include all types of properties: affordable, conventional, senior and high-end housing.
