Indiana Secretary Distributes Voting Accessibility Funds to Allen County

ALLEN COUNTY , Ind. (WOWO): Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson approved Allen County’s application for money to improve voting accessibility.

Tuesday afternoon, Allen County was awarded $1,047.26 as part of the latest round of funding distributed to counties who meet the qualifications of the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002.

I commend Allen County’s commitment to improving accessibility for Hoosiers,” Secretary Lawson said. “These upgrades at the request of Allen County Clerk Lisa Borgmann will improve the polling location structures for all citizens, not just on election day, but every day.”

Allen County will use the funds to upgrade current polling places to ensure those locations are handicap accessible. Specifically, ramps, handicap handles, traffic cones and arrow signs for handicapped parking will be purchased.

I was so pleased to hear that Allen County was receiving a HAVA/HHS grant,” said Clerk Borgmann. “This grant is very helpful in allowing our county’s voters to have better access to our voting locations.  We are always looking for ways to make voting easier for everyone.”
