Indiana Ranks 11th for Insurance Claims Resulting from Lightning

INDIANA, (WOWO): The Hoosier state ranks #11 when it comes to insurance claims resulting from lightning strikes. In 2012 lightning resulted in 12-hundred claims in Indiana with a payout over 6 and a half million dollars. Adding a whole-home surge protector is the best way to keep your electronics safe, which accounts for most claims.

Officials also remind you to stay inside when the weather turns bad. 85% of lightning strike victims are children and young men ages 10-35 that were outside working or playing. A total of 28 people were killed last year in lightning strikes nationwide.
