INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – A lawsuit claims a woman with lupus and other severe illnesses died after she was passed from one Indiana prison to another so often that the state Department of Correction lost track of her.

The lawsuit names the prison agency and its health care provider as defendants in the death of Rachel Wood, who had been convicted in Huntington County on drug charges.

The lawsuit filed in a Marion County court says the prison agency should have told Wood's family how severe her illness was.

Officials with the Department of Correction and health care contractor Corizon had no immediate comment Tuesday.

The lawsuit says Wood didn't receive adequate treatment for her lupus, a blood clotting disorder, depression and other mental illness before her death in April 2012.
