Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspends abortion doctor’s license

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO):  A northern Indiana abortion doctor had his medical license taken away on Thursday.

After 12 hours of testimony, the Indiana Medical Licensing Board said 71-year-old Dr. Ulrich Klopfer lacked sound medical judgment. He faces a minimum six-month suspension, according to the Journal Gazette.

Ulrich admitted to the board he performed an abortion on a 10-year-old girl who was raped by a family member, then let her go home without reporting the child abuse.

He also performed abortions without giving pain medication to all his patients. The testimony also showed he was using the same abortion and sedation procedures from the 1970s and 1980s.

Klopfer performed abortions in Fort Wayne, Gary and South Bend for years. He hasn’t been able to do abortions in Fort Wayne since losing his privileges in December 2013.

His last abortion facility in South Bend closed last year because the Indiana State Department of Health wouldn’t renew the facility’s license due to health and safety violations.

You can read more about Ulrich and the testimony in the story by the Journal Gazette.
