Indiana Lawmakers Debate how to Calculate School Funding

INDIANA (WOWO); A debate is looming among Indiana lawmakers over how to calculate funding for low-income students.

Schools receive extra state funding based how many students are from low-income families. Senate Appropriations Chairman Luke Kenley says there will be a lot of discussion over the best way to calculate at-risk funding.

“The important this is, that we use this process to figure out how to most-equitably fund all of our kids in the state of Indiana with their different needs.”

The House Republicans‘ budget proposes switching to a simple count of how many students are on the federal free-lunch program.
