Indiana Launching Push to Inform Students About Internships

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana's higher education commissioner says the state is launching a new push to teach students how to make the most out of their educations through internships and other opportunities.

Commissioner Teresa Lubbers said Monday during her annual state of higher education address that the commission partnered with educators and Indiana employers on the new statewide Career Ready campaign.

That campaign will debut in late April as part of Gov. Mike Pence's challenge to get Indiana companies to add 10,000 internships and other work-based learning experiences for students.

Lubbers says the Career Ready campaign will teach high school and college students about “meaningful career'' and workplace experiences they can pursue to become more attractive to employers.

She says employers are demanding better-educated workers, and internships are part of that.
