Indiana Governor Mike Pence Won’t Seek RGA Chairmanship

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is forgoing a run for the chairmanship of the Republican Governors Association.

Pence spokeswoman Christy Denault said Friday that Pence would not seek the powerful position running the national organization. The job is a strong perch for potential White House contenders and was used effectively by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to help rebuild his image following a New Jersey bridge scandal.

Pence has entertained talk of seeking the White House but has not said whether he will seek his party's nomination. He has said his focus is on Indiana and the 2015 legislative session.

Pence supporters in Washington and elsewhere have floated his name as a candidate who could bridge party divides.
