Indiana employment numbers improving

Indianapolis, IND. (NETWORK INDIANA):  A new report shows that more Hoosiers are in the workforce than ever before.

From May to June, Indiana’s unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent, bringing the state’s current unemployment rate to 4.8 percent, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Last month alone, more than 8,500 Hoosiers started new jobs.

Republican Vice Presidential candidate, and sitting Indiana Governor Mike Pence spoke about the new findings.

“With more than 8,500 Hoosiers finding employment in June, and with a labor force participation rate nearly 3 percent higher than the national average, it’s clear that Indiana is on a roll. Our economic momentum is a testament to the hardworking Hoosiers in businesses large and small who are dedicated to starting and growing their companies in the Hoosier state” said Pence.

The current number of Indiana residents employed, along with those in the labor force (which includes those actively seeking employment) are both at all-time highs.

In the Midwest, Indiana has the second best unemployment rate, following Michigan’s 4.6 percent. The worst unemployment rate in the region belongs to Illinois, which sits at 6.2 percent.
