Indiana Courts to Launch E-Filing

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Indiana's top courts are moving ahead with adopting an electronic-filing system that state officials say will eventually give the public free access to online court records statewide.

The Indiana Supreme Court and the Indiana Court of Appeals began offering e-filing in November. The Indiana Tax Court will follow in January.

Attorneys using those courts can still file paper versions of legal documents.

But Indiana Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathryn Dolan says lawyers are embracing e-filing because it eliminates the costs of photocopying, binding and mailing often voluminous court documents.

The top courts' transition is part of Indiana's goal of bringing e-filing to trial courts in all 92 of its counties by the end of 2018.
