Indiana City Backs Deal with $800M Power Plant

LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP): A northern Indiana city council has approved buying electricity from a proposed $800 million power plant although questions remain about the project.

The Logansport City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night in favor of the power purchase agreement with Total Concept Solutions. The deal would have the city's utilities department buy electricity for less from the new plant than it currently pays Duke Energy.

The Pharos-Tribune reports Councilman Jeremy Ashcraft said he voted against the agreement because of unanswered questions about the project's financing.

Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma is an attorney for the plant developer. WLFI-TV reports Bosma said those details will be available once the financing agreement is completed.

Mayor Ted Franklin says he expects to finalize that agreement later this summer.
