INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana health officials have made changes to an effort to boost the number of children vaccinated for the HPV virus after complaints from social conservatives drew the attention of Republican Gov. Mike Pence.
The Journal Gazette reports that the Indiana State Department of Health has made changes to a notification sent to parents whose children have not received the human papilloma virus vaccine.
he initial notice mentioned the public health risk posed by the common, wart-causing sexually transmitted disease and strongly urged parents vaccinate their children. Now the notice explicitly states the vaccine is not required and instructs parents how to opt out of the state's vaccine notification system.
The changes came after Republican Gov. Mike Pence said he would take action.
