Indiana Boy, 17, Charged in Crash That Killed 3 Teens

VESAILLES, Ind. (AP) _ Southeastern Indiana prosecutors have charged a 17-year-old boy with reckless homicide and reckless driving in a crash that killed three high school students.

Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel charged the boy as a juvenile in the March 7 crash that killed 17-year-old Thomas C. Bowman, 18-year-old Jacob Vogel and 18-year-old Samantha R. Hansen.

The teen facing the charges was driving one of two pickup trucks that collided near Versailles, about 45 miles west of Cincinnati. He was one of three survivors of that crash.

The two other survivors told investigators the 17-year-old driver accelerated as their truck neared a rural intersection where it crashed into a classmate’s truck.

The teens were South Ripley High School students who were returning to the school after attending a Future Farmers of America event.
