Indiana Board of Education Executive Director to Retire

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The executive director of the Indiana State Board of Education says he's planning to retire at the end of the month.

The agency put out a news release on Wednesday morning announcing Robert Guffin's plans. He's been in the position for the last year.

Guffin's retirement comes amid a shake up on the board. Republican Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed a bill earlier this month that will take away two of his ten appointments to the board and give one appointment each to Indiana House and Senate leaders. Democratic state schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz will remain the board's chairman.

Guffin says he's looking forward to spending time with his family. His last day is May 29. The board said it will vote to fill his position at a future meeting.
