I-65 Southbound Completely Closed near Seymour

SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) _ Road work and a major pavement failure have combined to completely shut down Interstate 65 southbound in southern Indiana.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Harry Maginity says traffic was being diverted to U.S. 31 at Seymour until work crews can repair a major pavement failure in the only lane that was open in a construction zone.

He says repairs were estimated to take four hours and last into Thursday evening before I-65 was reopened to southbound traffic.

Maginity says “the pavement just cracked up and blew away.'' Heavy truck traffic and high temperatures Thursday might have contributed to the failure.

He says traffic already was backed up because of the construction lane closure.

The problem occurred about 50 miles north of Louisville, Kentucky.
