I-469 Closed Due to Explosion, Fatal Crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Two major crashes have traffic shut down on I-469 on the city's north side.

Around 2:30 Friday morning, police responded to an incident involving a cattle truck on northbound 469 between I-69 and Maplecrest. Traffic was tied up for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. Drivers in the area reported to WOWO News that traffic was down to one lane, and backed up for several miles.

The call for the second crash, also on northbound 469 near Maplecrest, came in around 8:30 a.m. Officials say the incident involved an exploding semi, and add that at least one person is dead. With traffic still snarled from the initial crash, crews shut down the stretch of 469 entirely.

An eye witness says the second crash involved a collision between a van and two semis, leading to a spark that left one semi engulfed in flames.
