Huntington teacher 2017 Indiana Teacher of the Year finalist

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): A local teacher might become the 2017 Indiana Teacher of the Year.

Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz announced the 10 finalist for 2017 Indiana Teacher of the Year on Tuesday.

Jarod Hammel, a math teacher at Huntington North High school, is one of the finalist.

“Everywhere I go, I see great teaching and learning happening in Hoosier classrooms,” said Ritz. “Great teachers can have a lifelong impact on a child’s life.”

The selection committee is comprised of former Indiana Teachers of the Year. The applicants have to go through a rigorous application process. The teacher of the year will be announced in October.
