Huntington Co. Residents Seek Tougher Rules on Wind Farm Developers

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (AP): Residents in a northeastern Indiana county are pushing for tougher restrictions on wind farm developers, including requiring that wind turbines be installed farther from property lines.

Homeowners who attended Wednesday night's Huntington County Plan Commission meeting also told the officials that they want quieter wind turbines and for development companies to provide money for removing the towering machines in case they fall into bankruptcy.

County commissioner Leon Hurlburt says his constituents are unhappy with the county's current wind farm ordinance. He says if changes are made to the ordinance more residents could support a proposal by developer Apex to build a wind farm in the county's southeastern corner.

Apex Development Manager Rob Propes says it's too early to know if a revised ordinance would affect that project.
