The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is considering permanently allowing deer and turkey hunters to check in their game online instead of visiting check-in stations.
The Tribune in Seymour reports the system called CheckIN Game has been used since the spring wild turkey season under a temporary rule. It allows hunters to check in a deer or wild turkey using a computer or other electronic device. Hunters receive a unique confirmation number for each animal.
Division of Fish & Wildlife staff specialist Linnea Petercheff says electronic check-in is more convenient and saves hunters from having to drive long distances to register their game.
Hunters could still go to a check-in station if the rule passes.
A hearing on the rule change is planned Oct. 4 in Plainfield.
