WATERLOO, Ind. (AP) _ It's going to take longer than first thought to rebuild a playground in Waterloo that was destroyed by fire in March.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1JoLHev ) that Waterloo Town Manager Tena Woenker says the town was hoping to have Fran Thomson Park rebuilt by June. But she says it was underestimated how long it would take to settle insurance and obtain materials.
Instead, Waterloo now has a new target date of Sept. 22 to 26. That's when the community will come together to rebuild the park. About 900 volunteers will be needed to work shifts over those five days.
The playground was built in 2000, but a fire started by three boys reduced it to a pile of unsafe black wreckage. The damage totaled about $150,000.
