Hundreds Honor Hoosier Marine Slain In Afghanistan

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (AP) – Hundreds of people lined a route around a southern Indiana county as the body of a 21-year-old Marine killed during combat in Afghanistan arrived for the start of his funeral services.

Fellow Marines stood at attention with Lance Cpl. Alec Terwiske’s family as his flag-draped casket was taken from a plane at the Huntingburg airport Wednesday.

Dozens of motorcyclists and a fire truck then led a hearse through the towns of Huntingburg, St. Anthony and Celestine on its way to a Jasper funeral home. Visitation is Thursday.

Amy Patterson tells WFIE-TV that her nephew loved what he was doing with the Marines.

Wayne Culver tells the Evansville Courier & Press he came out to the procession route because Terwiske “needs all the respect he can get.”
