BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP): Authorities in Bloomington are investigating a set of human remains that were found in a field on the city’s southwest side.
Police Capt. Steven Kellams say there’s no indication of race, gender, or age of the person the remains belonged to. There’s also no obvious cause or manner of death.
He says there’s no indication the remains are connected to the June 2011 disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer.
Kellams says Monroe County Coroner Nicole Meyer has requested the help of forensics anthropologists with the University of Indianapolis.
Kellams says a worker found the remains in a field partly surrounded by trees and high grass in an industrial area. Clothing remnants were nearby.
