HU Seeks $100K Safety Grant

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WOWO): A local university is competing for a $100,000 safety grant.

Huntington University wants to upgrade its fire protection system for units at the Forester Village apartment. They are in the running for the grant from Stanley Security's Safer School program.

Officials say currently they use individual smoke detectors, but not a system that automatically alerts the fire department.

Its not so much, a safety issue now, its an opportunity to eliminate some delays and make things safer for the 60 students who live in the complex.

Grants will be awarded based on votes received, with the top two vote-getters being selected.

The voting period is open now and ends Feb. 13. Three methods are available to vote for HU:
