INDIANA, (WOWO): The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is encouraging Hoosiers to register for this year's Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, which will be held at 10:16 a.m., October 16th. The ShakeOut is the largest earthquake drill in the Central United States.
It's led by local emergency management agencies, IDHS, the Indiana Geological Survey, the Indiana Department of Education, the Central United States Earthquake Consortium, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Geological Survey.
At 10:16 a.m. , participants should drop to the ground, take cover and hold on as if a major earthquake were happening. This opportunity to practice is key to protecting yourself and others during an actual earthquake.
A total of nearly 1.9 million participants have registered so far, and currently Indiana is in the lead with nearly 395,000 registrants. For information on how to register, visit http://www.in.gov/dhs/getprepared.htm.
