AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): Work has begun on a historic fountain in downtown Auburn.

Charles Eckhart gifted the historic fountain in front of the library that bears his name in 1912.

Tuesday morning, a crane picked up the fountain in three seperate pieces and placed it in a truck bound for Alabama, where it will be restored.

Thhe original plans for the fountain were acquired to make sure it’s restored correctly, according to our news partners at 21Alive.

A fundraising campaign to restore and return the fountain to the front of Eckhart Public Library is on. The Community Foundation of DeKalb County is seeking $150,000 for the project. You can donate here.

Here’s how the fountain looked before it was disassembled.
