Herbert Street Fire Update

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Crews are still on the scene after a fire roared through the afternoon and into the evening at an industrial complex on Herbert Street, just east of downtown. That's near the River City volleyball complex.

The fire was brought under control, around 10:45 p.m. Monday, nearly eight hours after the first dispatch was issued.

Today is a day of anticipating and controlling any sparks that could ignite a new fire. Teams of firefighters rotate every few hours in a sort of guard duty at the scene.

Fire officials say they'll be there into the day tomorrow, at the very least.

Meanwhile Deputy Chief Mark Nelson says the investigation will be slow and intentional.
