Heavy Snowfall Starts Across Northern Indiana

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Heavy snow has started falling across northern Indiana as another winter blast hits the state a day after spring-like temperatures brought many people outside.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning until 5 p.m. Wednesday for roughly the northern third of Indiana, with 5 to 8 inches of snow possible.

Roads have become snow-covered and slick in the South Bend area, where many school districts delayed openings. The Fort Wayne Community Schools closed for the day in anticipation of the snowfall.

Smaller snow accumulations are expected in central Indiana, where heavy rain was falling at times early Wednesday.

After temperatures reached into the 50s on Tuesday in South Bend, the weather service expects Thursday's low there to be about zero.
