Heavy Rains force Baer Field Speedway Cancellation

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): The recent heavy rains have forced all activities this weekend at Bear Field Speedway to be cancelled.

“When we arrived at the Speedway this morning, we knew we were in trouble,” said promoter Jon Raney. “Our overflow parking lot it totally flooded and we have standing water in several different area on the property, especially the infield and the pit area. With the grounds being this waterlogged and more rain and cool weather in the forecast, we just don’t see any hope of getting things dried out in time.”

Saturday was the debut of the Must See Racing XTREME SPRINT SERIES. Both Speedway and Must See Racing officials will work to find a rain date for this event, later in the season.

The Friday night drag races will also be canceled for the fifth straight week.

“We really hate to cancel, as this event was one of the feature events of our 2014 schedule,” said Raney. “But with the weather the way it is, I think it would be miserable for the fans and we would likely end up with a pits full of trucks and trailers sunk axle-deep in mud. We know that people come from quite a ways away to both watch and compete in these Sprint Car events, so we felt that it’s best for everyone to make this decision early.”

Stock Car action will resume on Saturday, May 24, with the first $5 Family Night of the season.
