Hearing over Controversial “Oink” License Plate, Rescheduled

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): A hearing over a controversial vanity license plate has been rescheduled.

A Central Indiana judge delayed a hearing until April. It’s the case of a police officer’s lawsuit that revoked his vanity license plate that read “Zero-I-N-K” or Oink to the observant eye. Officer Rodney Vawters lawsuit argues that the BMV's choice to revoke the plate is a violation of his free speech rights.

Vawter had the plate for three years before it was revoked and labeled as “offensive or misleading”. The ACLU is representing Vawter. The BMV has all vanity plates on hold until the case is decided.
