Health department releases new immunization rules…

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ New Indiana health department rules require two chicken pox vaccinations for all grades unless the student can prove that he or she contracted the disease in the past.

Previously, some grade levels were only required to have one vaccination for the illness.

Health officials also are recommending kindergarten students receive two doses of the hepatitis A vaccine. They also say 11th and 12th grade students should get a booster dose of the meningitis vaccination.

To check immunization records, Indiana residents can visit the MyVaxIndiana website. The service allows users to access their immunization records from any computer by using a PIN number that can be obtained through healthcare providers.

Users are able to download, print or fax records, which include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended immunization schedule.
