Health care study gives Lutheran a D grade, Parkview an A

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A national health care quality and safety organization says Fort Wayne’s two major healthcare providers couldn’t be much further apart.

Parkview Regional Medical Center received its 10th-straight A grade from The Leapfrog Group, which measures health care quality through hospital surveys, but Lutheran Health Network got its third-straight D grade.

The Journal Gazette reports a Lutheran spokesman dismissed the grades, saying they “don’t accurately reflect” care provided, pointing out that the staff of Lutheran, St. Joseph and Dupont Hospitals chose not to take the survey, which is the real reason their grade was so low.

The study looks at things like objects left inside surgery patients, infections, patient falls, and deaths from treatable complications. Read it here.

I’ve never been hospitalized at Lutheran but I have at Parkview a few times. It’s amazing they’re receiving A’s. My experiences with them have not been “A” grade. And I’ve haven’t participated in any health care study either. I guess Parkview only wants positive feedback. They certainly would not receive accolades from me.

Parkview probably paid for that grade with their “NOT FOR PROFIT MONEY.” They also made it into the top for the most expensive hospital too, but the public doesn’t ever see that grade.

Not sure about the validity of the survey, but can tell you from my past relationships with both organizations, as a customer and business asssociate, the grades are spot on. Parkview has done, and continues to do, amazing things for our community, and youth organizations. There’s a reason we picked them to service all of our amateur and professional athletes. Definitely Grade A in my book.

LUTHERAN IS MORE LIKE AN F. They let my sick sister with cancer sit in ER for HOURS not giving her any pain meds,so she went to Parkview for help and within minutes she had pain relief! Lutheran use to be good, but a year ago many staff/doctors left there because of the changes there. Wished my sister would have started with oncologist at Parkview to begin with Lutheran has been so slow at helping her that her cancer has spread now!!!
