Head of Allen Co. Election Board, “we just ask that everyone be patient”

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): We’ve received multiple reports into the WOWO Newsroom, that it’s taking anywhere from one to two hours to vote in Allen County.

One major issue has been voting machines going offline, but Tom Hardin, head of the Allen County Election Board tells WOWO News, technicians are on hand to take care of those kinds of problems.

“There were a couple of precincts, or voting locations I should say, in which the machines were not properly set up and prepared for voting,” Hardin said. “We have worked through those issues using our technicians here, along with the inspectors and the crews at the voting locations and everyone is up and running now.”

Some precincts have reported more than 300 people in line, making it challenging for some senior citizens to wait in line. Hardin says his crews are trying to make extra accommodations.

“What we have asked our inspectors to do at each voting location is to assist the elderly voters, who are having a difficult time standing and waiting to vote, to provide them with a chair and to allow them to sit in line until the line moves and they are able to vote.”

In the meantime he is asking that all voters be understanding.

“We are pleased and certainly overjoyed that voters are exercising their right to vote, and we would just ask that everyone be patient as they do so today.”

Voting sites are open until 6 p.m.

WOWO will have live wall-to-wall election coverage starting at 6:00 p.m.
